Kamloops Augering & Boring Ltd. (KABL) recently received the Lieutenant Governor's Award for Engineering Excellence for the trenchless construction work they completed on the Port Mann/Highway 1 Improvement Project - Onshore works.
Working as a part of a Design/Build project team that included; Hatch Mott MacDonald, Transportation Investment Corporation, and Kiewit/Flat Iron General Partnership; Kamloops Augering & Boring Ltd. installed a total of 34 culverts that ranged in size from 305 mm (12") up to 3,048 mm (120") through a variety of ground conditions. KABL is most proud of the salmon enhancement portion of the project for Latimer and Leoran Creek. The enhancement of Latimer and Leoran Creek has improved access to spawning grounds. The culverts were 3,048 mm (120") in diameter and 90 m (295') in length and were installed using an IHC S150 Hydrohammer. The ground conditions throughout the project were glacial till with boulders as large as 2.45 m (~8'). KABL worked closely with the project team during the design phase to recommend trenchless construction methods that would be the most effective and provide the highest degree of success. Another project our company and the community can be proud of.
